Canada’s clean energy capacity has grown by 93 percent over the past 5 years, with direct clean energy jobs in 2013 pulling into the lead ahead of total direct oil sands jobs! (more…)

Raglan Mine: Canada’s First Industrial-Scale Wind and Energy Storage Facility

The decision to install a three-megawatt wind turbine at Glencore’s Raglan Mine came after nearly five years of careful investigation, assessment, and analysis, says Jean-Francois Verret, director of strategy, projects, and public affairs. Because of the Arctic conditions at the mining site, which sits on the Ungava Peninsula in Nunavik, roughly 1,800 kilometres north of Montreal, gathering in-depth data was an essential first step. I’ve never regretted my investment in WindShare. When I heard about the plan to put a wind turbine at Exhibition Place, I’d been in Canada for less than a month. We didn’t even have a permanent place to live when I put down my $501. I knew, though, that it would be an investment in the future. (more…)
