To celebrate Global Wind Day, the international annual day for discovering the power of wind, and the growing contribution of wind energy in Canada, the Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA) is launching its annual Power of Wind contest.
As the future of the industry, we want to showcase how Canada’s youth see the potential of renewable energy. Students entering or in post-secondary education are invited to share their vision of how wind energy can contribute to Canada’s future by submitting a photo or visual image that illustrates, expresses or in some way conveys that vision. A visual can be an original photograph, a digital creation or a digital representation of personal artwork. All submissions must be original works by the individual entering the contest. Winning submissions will be featured in CanWEA’s 2017 Friends of Wind calendar and will be announced at CanWEA’s Annual Conference and Exhibition in Calgary, Alberta in November 2016.
Use your imagination and get creative!
The Friends of Wind calendar is a product of CanWEA’s Friends of Wind program which provides avenues for interested individuals and organizations to “join the conversation” about Canada’s energy future in meaningful and impactful ways. The calendar is supported by wind energy industry leaders and will be seen by and distributed to a broad audience, including industry members, communities, schools, and members of the general public. There will be an English edition and a French edition. It will be printed in full color with pages roughly standard letter-sized and designed to hang on a wall.
We encourage all entrants into the Power of Wind contest to focus on how Canada can build on the positive progress that has helped Canada take its strong position as a global wind energy leader. Submissions will be evaluated for effective use of positive messaging, vibrant or unique use of colour, and optimistic forward-looking imagery. Ideally, winning submissions will provide a sense of motivation and hope for a clean energy future in Canada.
The contest will run from June 15, 2016 (Global Wind Day) to August 15, 2016. The winners will be announced in Calgary, Alberta at the CanWEA Annual Conference and Exhibition, November 1-3, 2016.

The submission email must include your name, age, school, program, a picture of yourself (for use in the announcement of winners) and a 50-word biography (also for use in communications about winning entries).
Please note, files over 8MB will need to be submitted via a web transfer to firstname.lastname@example.org.

The contest opens on June 15, 2016 and entries will be accepted until midnight, August 15, 2016. This contest is open to participants from Canada. There is no entry fee. Each participant can submit only one entry to this contest. CanWEA employees and employees of CanWEA member organizations are not eligible to take part in the contest, nor are their relatives or members of their families. CanWEA reserves the right to use any submission on its website or for other marketing materials. The decision of the judges is final. Only winners will be contacted after submissions have been reviewed. Winners will be announced publicly at CanWEA’s annual Conference and Exhibition in Calgary, Alberta, in November 2016.
